Social Security & Medicare

Dave was raised in part by his grandmother, and he will always fight against turning seniors’ health care over to insurance companies or forcing them to pay more for their care by turning Medicare into a voucher program. Dave has voted to extend the solvency of Medicare by eight years without adding to the deficit and without reducing seniors benefits. He does not support plans to end the Medicare guarantee and turn the program over to private insurance companies so that seniors are left on their own to find insurance at a time when they need care the most. Dave also supports legislation that would move to the CPI–E, or Consumer Price Index for the Elderly. This change would ensure that cost of living updates better keep pace with the things that seniors spend their money on, including healthcare, food, and housing. Far too many Iowans are struggling to make ends meet in these difficult economic times. Dave knows that many depend on Social Security as their only source of income, and are already having to make difficult choices when it comes to paying their bills. Dave firmly believes that seniors who have not seen an adequate COLA increase for several years should not see their benefits further reduced.
