Loebsack Challenges Archer to Series of Debates

Iowa City, IA – Congressman Dave Loebsack today challenged John Archer to participate in a series of debates to give the people in Iowa’s Second District a clear picture of the differences between the two. Loebsack and Archer have already agreed to participate in a televised debate sponsored by KWQC in the Quad Cities. Loebsack called on Archer to agree to three additional debates in locations and formats to be determined by Friday, August 31st.

“There is no doubt that our candidates offer incredibly different solutions to the problems that face Iowa and the country at large. We feel that holding the same number of debates as the Presidential campaigns will provide Iowans with the information they need to know where our candidates stand on the issues that matter most to them,” Brian Fritsch, Loebsack’s Campaign Manager wrote in a letter to the Archer campaign.

“I look forward to Mr. Archer’s response and debating the stark differences he and I have about how best to move Iowa and our country forward,” said Congressman Loebsack.

A copy of the letter was sent via USPS certified mail to the Archer campaign. The text of the letter is included below.

Dear Ms. Earnhardt,

On behalf of Congressman Loebsack, I would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to Mr. Archer to participate in a total of four public debates.

There is no doubt that our candidates offer incredibly different solutions to the problems that face Iowa and the country at large. We feel that holding the same number of debates as the Presidential campaigns will provide Iowans with the information they need to know where our candidates stand on the issues that matter most to them.

We hope you feel similarly about the necessity of such a dialogue and will consider our invitation to engage in several meaningful and civil exchanges of ideas and visions.

Best,

Brian Fritsch
Campaign Manager
